Full description

The Niels Bohr Institute at Faculty of Science, the University of Copenhagen is looking for a Nanofabrication Engineer with effect from 10 November 2026 or after agreement.

About us The Novo Nordisk Foundation Quantum Computing Programme (NQCP) is establishing a talented and diverse international team to create a cutting-edge quantum programme in the heart of Copenhagen, Denmark.

At the Niels Bohr Institute, University of Copenhagen, where the formulation of Quantum Mechanics was born 100 years ago, we aim to establish an international quantum computing programme, generously funded by the Novo Nordisk Foundation, that will drive research and innovations at multiple levels - from developing scalable quantum processor technologies to solutions for the quantum-classical control and readout interface, and all the way to quantum algorithms and applications.

The long-term mission of the programme is to develop fault-tolerant quantum computing hardware and quantum algorithms that solve life-science-relevant chemical and biological problems.

Tasks We are seeking an experienced nanofabrication process expert to our wafer-based nanofabrication team. Working closely with Platform Integration and Fabrication Tools Development teams, you will work with the development of fabrication processes for wafer-based components for our quantum processors.

The scope of responsibility centres on device fabrication and quality control, along with data tracking & analysis. The position requires a high degree of cross-functional collaboration and teamwork.

Responsibilities

  • Drive the development of advanced fabrication processes in close partnership with Tools Development, Characterization, and Quantum Platform Integration teams.
  • Design and implement comprehensive in-process work streams, including technical protocols, testing standards, and quality specifications.
  • Analyze correlations between process parameters and metrology data to refine and stabilize fabrication outcomes.
  • Monitor process capability and track variations to identify, lead, and support initiatives that enhance manufacturing excellence.
  • Enable Future Technologies: Actively contribute to the development of new tooling and hardware that enables cutting-edge fabrication capabilities.
  • Evaluate new process requirements against current capabilities to perform risk assessments and provide accurate yield estimations. Qualifications
  • Masters/Ph. D in material science, electronics, physics or related.
  • 2+ years’ experience in microelectronics or MEMS.
  • Experience in nanofabrication techniques including electron beam and optical lithography, dry and wet etching methods, and thin film deposition.
  • Proficient in data tracking and analysis methods (e.g., six sigma concepts).
  • Ability to assume a technical leadership role while driving an innovative culture and growth mindset. We offer: Life in Denmark is supported with strong social services (free universal healthcare, free/subsidised language courses, paid parental leave, subsidised day care institutions and excellent public schools). Our work culture is very egalitarian and prioritises work life balance. Dual career families are the norm, and workplaces offer flexibility to support everyone in having both an exciting career and good family time. Danish cities are known for having excellent infrastructure, for example through widespread bike path networks. We can also offer a thriving food-scene, excellent museums, and beautiful natural scenery.
